How microneedling works
Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy has garnered a reputation for being a highly effective, safe and affordable solution for a wide variety of skin complaints.
Ageing, scarring and a variety of other factors deplete collagen and elastin in the skin. Microneedling works by creating ‘micro-injuries’ which stimulate a healing response from the body, this response triggers the natural rebuilding of collagen and elastin; the all important proteins that keep your skin firm and smooth.

The Dermapen’s advanced skin needling technology uses twelve sterile needles that vertically pierce the skin with an automatic vibrating function. How many treatments do I need?
Our clinician will consult you on a prescribed treatment. Skin conditions are different and results are impacted by individual factors, but here is a guideline:
Rejuvenation: 4-6 treatments – 4 weeks apart
Acne Scarring: 6 treatments – 6 weeks apart
Stretch Marks: 10 treatments – 4-6 weeks apart
Does it hurt?
Medical-grade microneedling would be painful, however the area will be numbed half an hour before, making the treatment very comfortable.
What should I expect?
We are here to make your appointment as comfortable and anxiety-free as possible, so always feel free to ask any questions.
At your microneedling appointment:
- Your skin will be cleaned so it’s free of lotion, oil, makeup, powder, or sunscreen.
- You will be asked to inform our dermal therapist as to changes in your medical history and of all the medications you’re taking.
- Your dermal therapist will ask if there are any cosmetic tattoos in the treatment areas.
- 30 minutes prior to your treatment, topical anaesthetic will be applied to your skin.
- The microneedling treatment itself takes approximately 30 minutes.
When will I see results?
Typically you will see results after the first treatment. Full, lasting results will come into effect after 4 to 6 treatments.
What preparation and aftercare do I need?
Before your treatment:
You will want to refrain from using abrasive skincare products, such as retinol, exfoliants, topical antibiotics and acids, for at least 48 hours. Avoid hair removal treatments. It is crucial to avoid harmful UV ray exposure from direct sunlight and tanning beds for the five days before your treatment.
After your treatment:
Avoid partaking in activities that will heat up your skin, such as going in a hot tub/Jacuzzi/sauna, taking a very hot shower, or strenuous exercise for 2 days after treatment. First Few Days: Continue gentle cleansing and moisturizing over the next few days. Avoid scrubbing, rubbing, or using exfoliants for 1 week.
