What to Expect
From your first consultation to treatment and follow-up care. We’ll discuss your concerns, what you’d like to achieve and the treatment options that may be suitable for you. From there, we’ll recommend a treatment plan and explain what to expect at each stage. Learn more about our approach to treatment planning.
Your Consultation
Your practitioner will ask about your concerns, medical history, previous treatments and current skincare. They will assess the treatment area and explain the options that may be appropriate for you.
This is also your opportunity to ask questions and discuss:
- The proposed treatment and suitable alternatives
- Expected benefits and realistic outcomes
- Possible risks and side effects
- Preparation and aftercare
- Expected discomfort and downtime
- Treatment costs
- Whether more than one session may be required
There is no obligation to proceed. In some circumstances, treatment may not be recommended or may need to be postponed.
Before your treatment
Preparation varies depending on the treatment. You may be advised to temporarily avoid certain skincare ingredients, treatments, supplements or medications.
Please tell us about any medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy or breastfeeding, recent procedures, medications or supplements. Do not stop prescribed medication unless advised by the healthcare professional who prescribed it.
You will receive any treatment-specific instructions before your appointment.
On the day
Please arrive with clean skin where possible and allow enough time for your appointment. Your practitioner will review the treatment plan and confirm your consent before proceeding.
Clinical photographs may be taken to support treatment planning and monitor your progress. These are kept confidential and will not be used for marketing without your separate permission.
During treatment
Your practitioner will explain what is happening throughout the appointment. The sensations experienced vary by treatment and by person. Depending on the procedure, you may notice warmth, pressure, tingling, brief discomfort or sensitivity.
Comfort measures may be available where appropriate. If you feel uncomfortable or need a break, please let your practitioner know.
General New Patient FAQ
What happens during my consultation?
Your practitioner will discuss your concerns, medical history, previous treatments and desired outcome. They will assess the relevant area and explain the options that may be suitable for you.
You will receive information about the expected benefits, limitations, risks, costs, recovery and possible alternatives. There is no obligation to proceed, and treatment may not be recommended in every case.
Will treatment be uncomfortable?
The sensations experienced vary according to the treatment and the individual. You may notice warmth, pressure, tingling, sensitivity or brief discomfort.
Your practitioner will explain what to expect and discuss suitable comfort measures. Please let them know at any stage if you feel uncomfortable or need a break.
What should I expect immediately afterwards?
Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or sensitivity can occur after many cosmetic and dermal treatments. Some treatments may also cause bruising, dryness, flaking or a sensation similar to mild sunburn.
The type and duration of these effects depend on the procedure and your individual response. Before you leave, we will explain what is expected and what may require further assessment.
How long will recovery take?
Recovery varies considerably between treatments. Some procedures require little or no interruption to usual activities, while others involve visible redness, swelling, peeling or sensitivity for several days or longer.
Your practitioner will discuss the anticipated recovery period before treatment so you can plan around work, social events and other commitments. Individual healing times can vary.
What aftercare will I need to follow?
Your aftercare instructions will be specific to your treatment. Depending on the procedure, you may be asked to temporarily avoid:
- Strenuous exercise
- Excessive heat, saunas or hot showers
- Swimming
- Sun exposure
- Makeup
- Active skincare ingredients
- Facial treatments or massage
- Touching or applying pressure to the treated area
Use only the products recommended by your practitioner and apply sun protection as directed. Following your aftercare instructions helps support recovery and reduce avoidable irritation.
When should I contact the clinic?
Contact LookFresh if you experience symptoms that concern you, appear different from those discussed during your appointment, or become worse rather than improving.
Seek urgent medical assistance for severe pain, difficulty breathing, rapidly increasing swelling, changes to vision or any other serious or rapidly developing reaction.
When will I see results?
Some effects may become noticeable soon after treatment, while others develop gradually as swelling settles or the skin responds over time.
The expected timeline depends on the treatment and your individual response. Your practitioner will explain when changes may become visible and when the outcome can reasonably be assessed.
Will I need more than one treatment?
Some concerns may be addressed with one treatment, while others benefit from a planned series or ongoing maintenance. Recommendations depend on your goals, the treatment selected and how you respond.
There is no guarantee of a particular outcome, and additional treatment will only be recommended following assessment.
Will I need a follow-up appointment?
A review may be recommended to assess your recovery and results. Please attend any scheduled follow-up even if your recovery appears straightforward.
If you have questions before your review, you are welcome to contact the clinic rather than waiting for your next appointment.
How much will my treatment cost?
Treatment costs vary depending on your concerns, the treatment recommended and whether a single appointment or a course of treatments is appropriate.
Indicative prices are available on our pricing page. Your practitioner will explain the full cost of the recommended treatment plan during your consultation, before you decide whether to proceed. Consultation fees are deducted from the cost of your first treatment.
